Religious Point of View on Choosing Baby Gender
Catholics point of view: Catholics whole heartedly believe that choosing the gender of one’s offspring is wrong, no matter what the circumstances. One process of gender selection is the separation of sperm. This means that the males’ sperm is separated into a female group, a male group and an abnormal group. The specific sperm group is used to fertilize the women’s eggs in-vitro while the abnormal group is discarded. There is another process with involves embryo destruction. Catholics do not support gender selection because they believe that God should be the one to make that choice and that by the destruction of sperm and embryo is unethical and not moral.
Buddhists point of view: Buddhists really do not have an opinion on this topic. There is really nothing that says whether it is wrong or right. The main thing for Buddhists is whether it is hurting the living thing. If the gender selection is not hurting the baby, they see no reason for it being a bad thing.
Jews point of view: The Jewish perspective on this topic is that it is okay in certain circumstances. This circumstance would mainly be the choosing of baby gender not for bias purposes but for medical reasoning. Jews believe that God want us as human being to use all our abilities to improve health, so thus this can be a good thing. However the Jewish community does not however accept sex selection for personal reasons. Just choosing the gender of the baby because you just really want a girl or a boy is wrong and unethical.
MY POINT OF VIEW: I do not really believe in choosing the sex of your baby. I think it is a special thing not to know what you have inside you. I think it makes it more special for it to be a surprise. Also I think it is God’s job to choose not ours. I mean if you choose the gender of your offspring because of medical reason that more acceptable.
