Religious Point of View on Cloning
Catholics point of view: Catholics, no question about it, find that reproduction cloning is completely immoral and wrong. The reason being for this is because the Catholic religion believes that a human being must be respected as a person at the moment of conception. And that God has put an individualized soul within us, giving us a meaning for life. So since the process of cloning does not have the aspect of conception this automatically diminishes the meaning of a human being. Even the thought of creating a “proper breed” of humans disgusts all Catholics. Cloning is a scientific treatment that Catholics considered illegal to their religion. However Catholics are okay with the process of therapeutic cloning for the reason of a medical problem. But making an identical human being is a big no-no.
Buddhists point of view: Buddhists have to ask themselves the question of “is this process causing harm to living creatures?” Therefore Buddhists think that DNA cloning is totally acceptable. Buddhists also support therapeutic cloning as well because in the Buddhist religion they do not think of cells in our body as living creatures. However when it comes to the topic of reproductive cloning some Buddhist do find a problem with it. Scientist have found that sometimes, when things are cloned, the new clone can sometimes have some problems that occur and tend to live a shorter life, so this process does have a possibility of harming living creatures. So in the end Buddhists are half and half when it comes to the topic of cloning.
Jews point of view: Jews have really nothing against cloning. The main reason for this is due to the fact that there is nothing in the Jewish Law that says that cloning is a bad thing. Also the Jewish community believe that God wants all of human beings to use all of their abilities to improve human health. So therefore cloning would be a positive thing in the eyes of the majority of Jewish people. That does not mean however that Jewish people agree fully in cloning. Some Jewish people think it is immoral to just create another human being because that is the right of God.
MY POINT OF VIEW: I do not see cloning as something that we really need to do, that is to say human cloning. Cloning of organs for example I find more acceptable because it is for medical purposes. Just cloning to clone is just wrong. It is not up to us to create life that again is the job of God.
